Hi there blogger friends. Despite having 2 mostly white dogs, I have never dealt with red staining on their fur. Seeing how Shelby was in a kennel for some time, she has red stained white paws and the white on her head is stained as well. We have not yet braved a bath but will later this week- any ideas on getting this staining out safely? I have been feeding her a high qaulity diet that is helping immensely, supplementing with fish oil, and applying a Resicort lotion to help clear the minor staph infection she had on her head. She's definately looking better, I would just love to speed up the process if I can... I'm impatient like that!
I havent ever had a dog with white on them but my mom has a piebald doxie and she uses shampoo that is for dogs with white fur that helds the staining her dog gets on the white fur parts - her groomer told her about it, but other than that im not sure. she is so pretty though.
ReplyDeleteAngel Eyes might work. It's pretty expensive, but if you look around you can find it cheap. We used it daily for a few weeks and now just add it to our dog's food every week or two. Helped clear up the undereye stains and around the mouth for our buff and white cocker.

I have a bulldog who had the same red staining of his fur when he was eating a lower end dog food. I think the dye comes out in his tears and saliva, staining his face and his paws if he licks them. It went away after changing his food to a higher end brand.
ReplyDeleteI have a black spainiel mix, and sometimes when she eats certain foods i notice a reddish-browhnish tinge to her fur. Not sure if you figured this out yet since I just stumbled onto your blog via a friend's blogroll, but i would second the food thing.
